شعب سيري

قبائل سيري، هم مجموعة من سكان ولايات المكسيك الأصليين، تحديداً ولاية سونورا. يقيم معظمهم في ممتلكات مشتركة في مدن بونتا تشويكا (يتحدثون لغة سيري) وإل ديسيمبوك (يتحدثون لغة سيري) على ساحل ابلر الرئيسي لخليج كاليفورنيا. كانت جزيرة تيبورون وجزيرة سان إستيبان جزءاً من الأراضي التقليدية لقبائل السيري، لكن بعض السيري عاشوا أيضاً في أماكن مختلفة في البر الرئيسي. كانوا شبه بدو رحّل صيادين حافظوا على علاقة حميمة بين البحر والأرض. وهم إحدى المجموعات العرقية في المكسيك التي حافظت بشدة على لغتها وثقافتها عبر السنين بعد اتصالهم بالثقافات الإسبانية والمكسيكية. لا يرتبط شعب سيري ثقافياأو لغوياً بأي مجموعات عرقية أخرى عاشت في نفس المنطقة، كشعب أوباتا أو شعب ياكوي أو كوتشيمي. تختلف لغة سيري عن جميع اللغات الأخرى في المنطقة وتعتبر لغة معزولة.[3]

إلى جانب قبيلة أباتشي وقبيلة ياكوي، عُرف عن السيري أنهم مقاتلون شرسون، إذ كافحوا بعنادة ضد استعباد الإسبان ومن بعدهم الشعب المكسيكي.

أما الاسم "سيري" فهو غير مؤكّد الأصل. ثمة ادّعاءات أنه من أوباتا أو من يوكوي وذلك على أساس التشابه مع كلمات من تلك اللغات، لكن ليس من أدلة واضحة.[3]

  • في فيلم وثائقي أنتج عام 1949، وهو جزء من سلسلة "جون نسبيت يعبر الجنة"، سُجّلت مشاهد من حياة سيري في جزيرة تيبورون وكان عنوانها "يوتوبيا الموت". استخدم فيلماً من حملة هارولد أوستن، مدّعياً بأن تلك كانت أول لقطات متحركة للقبيلة. http://ctva.biz/US/Documentary/PassingParade.htm
  • صورة هنود سيري في رواية كاتلو للويس لامور (1963) تحولت إلى فيلم عام 1971 بنفس الاسم وكان من بطولة يول براينر وريتشارد كرينا وليونار نيمو.
