بارجة سريعة بارجة أتخذت حل وسط بحيث تم إزالة الدروع والأسلحة التي لا لزوم لها.[1] تم بناء معظم البوارج المدرعة التي تعود إلى حقبة الحرب العالمية الأولى بسرعات تصميم منخفضة، لذلك يتم تطبيق مصطلح "سفينة حربية سريعة" على تصميم يكون أسرع بكثير. كانت السرعة الإضافية لسفينة حربية سريعة مطلوبة عادة للسماح للسفينة بالقيام بأدوار إضافية إلى جانب المشاركة في الجبهة، مثل مرافقة حاملات الطائرات.
